Living "The Dream"

"The Dream"

My friend and I had an inside joke to each other.  It was the phrase, "The Dream."

She wants to be a writer.  Me, a fashion designer.

2008.  Fresh Grads.  Unemployed and frustrated to write and design but our degree just didn't match up what we truly wanted to do.  Either, it wasn't a match or we were inexperienced. We were torn between getting a job that was related to our degree and getting a job that was related to our passions. Perhaps, both unready.  Both prideful not to ask for money from our parents.  Both trying "to adult".

And we began making the situation lighter by laughing at it on the train, after a job interview that we didn't pass.  We told ourselves that maybe we should settle for any jobs at that moment for money but with "the dream" in mind.  Apply to any work to achieve "the dream."  Whatever it would take.

We tried freelance work, contests, blogs... and even working in a couple of call centers (which was against my will at that time but I was desperate so I gave it a shot but... I didn't last hah!).

Since then, when one of us is sort of trying to pursue something related to our dreams (even not yet full time) and sort of succeeds in it, we say, "Ooooh the dream."

It was very much like an encouragement to each other that somehow even if our current  "jobs" are not solely related to each of our passions, we are still trying to (somehow) make it happen.  The best way we could.

Because really, if it is your passion, something inside you would whisper, "Make it happen.  Make it happen."  And the more you ignore it, the louder it gets saying, "Do it NOW."

And crazy as it sounds, it is true.

She dropped by at our school's exhibit and I know she's happy for me.  Seeing her yesterday after how many years, it just has given both of us something to laugh about and it has both reminded us to keeping pursuing "the dream."  Because, we are getting there.

We both have agreed to level it up, the phrase, by claiming it. ;)

To "Living the dream."
